(live blogging on its way)

It’s 8:49, first general session is running, John Gage is on the stand introducing the conference. Everybody stands up and Gage asks people here for the first time to seat down (I’m seated now), people with 2 JavaOne to seat down, with 3 years, … until a few people remain with 10 years of JavaOne. The conference is going to be green, carbon neutral.

A montage of what has been going on in the last year, people without borders, applications without borders, Java without borders, a big ad! Looked kind of the Web 2.0 video which has been quite popular on YouTube a short while ago. Can we create a world without borders to save the planet? Be Open. Open Standards. Open Possibilities.

Rich Green on the set. They are going to announce new directions, new programs for Java. Where they are going…

Martin Harriman, VP marketing of Ericsson on the set for an announcement: open source, Sun Java System Communications Application Server - based on Glassfish. A clip demoing the system is shown: sony computers, sony ericsson phones.

Anna Ewing, CIO Nasdaq, about real time java implementation at Nasdaq. 150,378 transactions per seconds. They are now migrating from Java to real-time Java.

Java is Digital Entertainment. Tom Hallman, VP Production Operations, Sony. Demoing “Open Season” bluray running a Java application, looks like a PS3 controller in his hands.

Netbeans 6, Open JDK, completion of open-sourcing of Java. GPLv2 license, Java IS open source.

The announcements…

We want Java to go faster! In spring, summer, fall, new JavaSE 6 release for faster download, faster execution, faster, faster, faster.

But wouldn’t it be cool if… we could add a new focus on consumer, media… a new plan today, JavaFX, consumer focused of Java technologies, high impact consumer markets. JavaFX Script, scripting language for rich Internet applications, roadmap for content authoring tools - is that Sun XAML answer? James Gosling on stage to demo! F3 just got renamed JavaFX Script! Kudos to Chris Oliver.

JavaFX Mobile, JavaSE to mobile devices. Rich goes a demo… or not? JavaFX mobile, iPhone before the iPhone? with JavaSE, open programming platform. Nandini Ramani JavaFX Core Team on stage, demo on a Nokia (N800?), a PDA phone, then on a regular phone.

Marco Boerries, Senior VP Yahoo. Demo Yahoo Go! on a Motorola phone. Nandini shows Yahoo Go! running on JavaFX (regular midlets are compatible), it shows really sweet effects - an again the platform is open - Apple vs. Sun on the iPhone-like market? interesting.

Jonathan Schwartz, CEO.

Dr. Djibril Diallo, new york office of sport for development and peace at United Nations.

Scott McNealy, chairman and co-founder. At Rich Green, “we know have our short sleeves version of Steve Jobs iPhone announcement” :)
